Attestation Procedure for Medical Certificate

A medical certificate is a document from a certified doctor confirming the health condition of a person. It is provided to the person after a medical examination. The medical certificate is often requested by the employer when an employee is absent from work for a long time period.

The medical certificate attestation is needed mainly for getting a leave extension due to sickness, injury, etc. It is also needed to claim medical insurance and medical benefits from the organization. For this purpose, the medical certificate should be authenticated by the concerned authorities of the document issuing country and the document receiving country.

The main procedure of Medical certificate attestation in India is as follows:

Notary/Home attestation: The medical certificate is attested from a Notary and then it is attested from the state Home department. You can also attest the medical certificate from the Sub-Divisional Magistrate [SDM], Delhi instead of state attestation.

MEA attestation: The certificate is attested from the Ministry of External Affairs [MEA].

Embassy attestation: After MEA attestation, the medical certificate is attested from the embassy of the country you are intending to travel to.
