Attestation & its Procedure for Getting Job Abroad

Certificate attestation is an important immigration process for immigrating abroad. To immigrate abroad, you are required to submit certain documents for verification purposes. To use those documents abroad, you need to legalize them from the country where the document was issued.

Certificate attestation is the process of attesting your documents with an official seal and signature from an official authority, department or Ministry. There are mainly three types of documents intended for the attestation process. They are personal, commercial and educational documents and one is required to attest those documents before leaving their home country. These documents are attested from various state departments, central ministries and embassies so that they can be used in foreign countries.


There are different types of attestation process in India. The main certificate attestation processes are state attestation, MEA attestation and embassy attestation. Depending on the document type, the state attestation varies from state to state.

The documents that one need to attest mainly depend on the purpose of your visit. If you are immigrating to a foreign country in search of employment, then you are required to do the following procedure:

HRD Attestation: If you are immigrating abroad for employment purposes, it is likely that you need to submit your educational documents to your employer or for getting a work permit. Therefore, you need to attest your educational documents from the state where you completed your education. HRD attestation is provided by the State HRD department and it is only for government recognized educational documents.

MEA Attestation: After the state attestation from the respective states, you need to attest the documents from the Ministry of External Affairs. If you are travelling to one of the Hague member countries, then you need to do the MEA Apostille Attestation.

Embassy Attestation: In the last stage of certificate attestation process from India, you need to attest the documents from the embassy of the country you are intending to travel.

MOFA Attestation: Finally, the documents are attested from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs once you reach the country.
